Duncand PD

Captain C.E. Long and Chief K.R. Cothran

Chief Cothran began his career with the Duncan Police Department in 1996. He was promoted to Chief of Police in 1999, becoming the youngest Police Chief in South Carolina at the time. Prior to his service at Duncan, he worked for Spartanburg County 911 Services.

Captain Long is a 30-year veteran of state and local law enforcement. He has spent nearly half his career in narcotics and criminal interdiction and has extensive knowledge with property and evidence procedures. He joined the Duncan Police Department in January of 2005.

The Black and Gray Teams each consist of three officers. The teams are responsible for twenty-four hour coverage of the town and officers work twelve hour overlapping shifts. The overlapping shifts allow for maximum coverage and protection for the town and its citizens during peak hours of each day.

School Resource Officers

The Department has three full time School Resource Officers with a combined fifty-four years of police experience. They have a total of thirty-six years experience in working and protecting our schools. There are four schools located within the town limits, including the eight-time state football 4A championship Byrnes High School Rebels.

The Department has two full time K-9 teams. A K-9 team consists of a dog and his handler. The K-9′s are Belgian Malinois that are trained in narcotics detection and tracking. K-9 Officers are responsible for the care and maintenance of their “partners”.

Reserve Officers are highly trained non-paid professionals that supplement the Department’s manpower. Reserve officers work at least twenty hours a month, assisting full time officers in their duties. For more information on reserve programs, contact your local law enforcement agency.

Police Clerk / Victim’s Advocate

The Police Clerk is responsible for the Department’s business office’s day to day operations. Business hours are Monday through Friday from 9 AM to 5 PM.
